February Apple Event 2024 : Vision Pro Launched

In February 2024, Apple launched the Vision Pro, marking the first product release of the year. While it debuted at the previous year’s WWDC, there was no specific launch event this February. Instead, Apple promoted the Vision Pro through product videos and press releases. Priced at $3,500, it is currently only available in the United States.

The Vision Pro operates on visionOS, which also saw its release in February.

As a brand-new device, the Vision Pro incorporates advanced technology, detailed further in our comprehensive Vision Pro roundup.

Surprise March MacBook Air Launch

Despite rumors of a spring 2024 event to unveil new MacBook Air and iPad Pro models, news emerged in late February that no such event would take place. However, on March 4, Apple unexpectedly announced new MacBook Air models in 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch sizes. These models introduce few physical changes from previous versions but feature the new 3-nanometer M3 chip, which is about 20% faster than the previous M2 chip and includes enhanced graphics capabilities like hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

Other updates include Wi-Fi 6E, a fingerprint-resistant coating on the Midnight color option, and improved microphones, with more details available in our MacBook Air roundup.

May 7 iPad Event

Apple plans to introduce new models of the iPad Pro and iPad Air at an event scheduled for May 7.

OLED iPad Pro

Apple is developing redesigned iPad Pro models in approximately 11.1-inch and 13-inch sizes. A significant update will be the new OLED display panel, which enhances contrast for improved HDR, offers better color accuracy, faster refresh rates, and greater power efficiency. These models are expected to incorporate Apple’s M3 chip and may debut alongside an updated Magic Keyboard with an aluminum shell and a larger trackpad, plus a new Pencil.

iPad Air

For the first time, Apple intends to release two iPad Air models. One will retain the current 10.9-inch size, while the other will be a larger 12.9-inch model, matching the current iPad Pro size. The iPad Air models will mirror the iPad Pro in design but will not feature ProMotion or OLED technology, distinguishing them from the higher-priced iPad Pro models. The chip to be used in the iPad Air remains uncertain, with rumors suggesting the M2 over the M3.

WWDC in June

At the WWDC in June, The company will unveil iOS 18, iPadOS 18, tvOS 18, watchOS 11, macOS 15, HomePod Software 18, and visionOS 2. These updates will officially launch in September, but Apple will preview them in June and start seeding beta versions to developers, allowing time for incorporating new features and refinements.

iOS 18

iOS 18 will focus significantly on artificial intelligence, particularly large language models akin to those developed by Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI. Rumored enhancements include AI-driven functionalities across various apps, such as AI-curated playlists in Apple Music and AI-assisted writing tools in Keynote and Pages.

September Apple Event 2024

Apple’s September event typically features the debut of new iPhone models and Apple Watches, and occasionally, updated AirPods. Here’s what we expect:

iPhone 16

The iPhone 16 models are expected to inherit the Action button from the iPhone 15 Pro, along with a new Capture button designed for easier video recording in landscape mode. Anticipated upgrades include an A18 chip and a vertically arranged rear camera setup. While similar in appearance to the iPhone 15, these models will introduce several new features.

iPhone 16 Pro

The iPhone 16 Pro models will likely maintain a visual similarity to the iPhone 15 Pro but feature larger displays and enhanced camera capabilities, including a tetraprism 5x Telephoto lens.

Apple Watch X

In 2024, Apple might celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch with a significant redesign possibly introducing a new magnetic band system.

AirPods 4

The fourth-generation AirPods, expected around September 2024, will introduce a new design, potentially with hearing aid functionality, and a case compatible with USB-C charging.

AirPods Max

The AirPods Max are due for an update in 2024, likely maintaining the current design but introducing new colors and switching to a USB-C port.

Late 2024/Early 2025 M4 Macs

Plans are underway for a late 2024 or early 2025 refresh of the Mac lineup with the new M4 chips, starting with the 24-inch iMac and extending to other models like the MacBook Pro and Mac mini.

Further in the Future

Beyond 2024, Apple’s product roadmap includes potential updates to the Mac Studio, Mac Pro, and a range of other devices and software. Rumors continue about a new type of foldable iPhone and a smart home display, among other future innovations.
